Coaching
Coaching is a relatively new profession, which draws upon and employs a wealth of information from fields as diverse as psychology, philosophy and spirituality as well as business and finance.
Coaching takes place in a variety of settings and can be utilised by individuals or groups. Regardless of the setting, the focus is always to achieve real and tangible results.
A coach is a trained professional who uses specialised communication tools alongside their life experience to help you to:
• Define who and where you are/would like to be
• Define strengths/weaknesses
• Design a plan of action
• Make decisions
• Reach goals
Coaching can be broad based or specific; it is a very flexible and forward-looking approach to reaching your full potential.
A coach works with you all the way to ensure that the decisions you make and the actions that you take are designed by you and are in your best interest. They enable you to ensure that you achieve the most balanced and fulfilled life possible for you.
When do people choose coaching?
Coaching is very much a 'want' as opposed to a 'need'. Some people approach coaching as a means of 'brainstorming' their lives; they may feel that change is necessary or need support during a time of transition. Others use coaching to help them to achieve a greater level of work-life integration or to enable them to perform differently either personally or professionally.
How does it work?
Coaching takes place in person; on the telephone or via email. It may last from several weeks to several months or years. The structure and duration of the coaching relationship will be agreed and reviewed overtime between the coach and the coachee.
Coaching can only ever work with the full commitment of the recipient. The coachee must ensure that they are open to the process as a coach will not only champion you, but will make requests of you and ask you to experiment.
Through a complementary session, your coach will set aside time for questions and will also be honest with you as regards their suitability to be your coach. Should it be necessary they can refer you to a colleague if they believes they will better serve you.
Provided that you have an open mind and a willingness to work, through coaching you should expect to make lifelong gains.
