What is Chair Massage?

These are acupressure (Japanese style) massages and they are experienced clothed. Clients sit in an ergonomically designed chair which maximises comfort and effect. These chairs are portable and can be used in a variety of settings. The massages may also be performed in a regular chair.

Practitioners screen all clients before the massage takes place. This process is designed to ensure that the client is safe to receive massage. The questions are not of an intimate nature, the practitioner merely needs to know that their client is not unwell or does not manifest any conditions that may be problematic when receiving massage. The screening is also a useful means for the practitioner to assess their client's objectives in receiving a massage and to learn about their general health in order to ensure that their massage is as beneficial as possible.

The massage focuses upon the back, arms, hands, shoulders, neck and head. No oils or products are used, just the practitioner's hands, thumbs and elbows. These are used to apply comfortable pressure to specific points around the upper body. If you imagine a hosepipe with water running through it, and then someone places a foot upon the pipe, this causes a build up of pressure (water). When the pressure of the foot is released, the water will rush through energetically. This is a somewhat crude description of how acupressure massage works, but describes how the massage works on an energetic level.

The massage is performed in a 15-minute sequence; hence they do not require a substantial time commitment on behalf of the client.
All practitioners are fully qualified; hold full public liability insurance and are members of established trade bodies. Each practitioner will always maintain confidentiality and respect your work environment at all times.

Examples of when you can use massage in the workplace
Many clients use our services regularly all year around, but others use us in specific circumstances such as:
  • Under deadlines - when staff are under project specific pressure for example, maybe they are working very long hours and need a helping hand.
  • Under transition - when business is going through major reorganisation or change, massage can help people to maintain focus and to keep a lid on stress.
  • Gift vouchers - purchase a massage for employees or colleagues to honour a special occasion.
  • Party time - utilise chair massage at business/social events.
  • Thank You's - there are occasions when an employer may wish to say thank you to their staff or clients. A chair massage is a thoughtful and 'different' gift.

Your practitioner will require a degree of space, approximately four square metres. Although the massage can take place in the client's office, it is preferable to have a separate room so as to avoid the distractions of colleagues and telephones etc!

It will be useful for the practitioner to have a contact on site. The contact may manage the space required and the diary if they so wish.
